:: Register Reward/Coupon Information ::
Walgreens, unlike Rite Aid and CVS, does not require a store loyalty card to receive sale prices or receive Register Rewards (RR).
- Walgreens accepts the following types of coupons:
- Manufacturer Coupons
- Internet/Printable Coupons
- Register Rewards
- In-Ad Coupons and Instant Value Coupons (IVC)
- Only one Register Reward can be earned per offer, per transaction. For example, if Pantene Shampoo is producing a $2 RR, each bottle must purchased in a separate transaction in order to earn the RR. If you purchase 2 bottles in one transaction, you would only receive one $2 RR.
- Register Rewards do not “roll”. Back to the Pantene example, if you purchase one bottle of Pantene and receive a $2 RR, you cannot use that RR to pay for another bottle of Pantene (you can, but you won’t receive another RR). The RR will not print out for the second transaction. You can use the RR to pay for a different item that might produce a RR, just not the same item for which the RR was produced in the first place.
- Register rewards are considered manufacturer coupons. Walgreens requires that you not have more manufacturer coupons than items being purchased. This is why I always list ‘filler items’ at the end of my Walgreens posts. Filler items are just inexpensive items that you can purchase so that the number of items in your order doesn’t exceed the number of coupons you have. For example, if you are purchasing a Gillette razor for $9 and you have both a manufacturer coupon for $4 off the razor, plus a $4 RR from a previous transaction, you would need to buy something else so that you can use both of the coupons.
- Walgreens offers in-ad coupons in each weekly ad. These coupons are considered store coupons, and do not count toward your total number of coupons. You can clip them from the ad and hand in while you’re cashing out, but many cashiers will just type in the number from the coupon. Only one coupon is necessary, even if you purchase several of the item. For example, if Lindsay Olives are on sale for $0.99 with in-ad coupon and you purchase 4 of them, you only need one in-ad coupon for all of the items to ring up at $0.99. These coupons can be ‘stacked’ (or combined with) manufacturer coupons for the same item. Back to the Lindsay Olives example, if they are on sale for $0.99 with in-ad coupon, you can still use a manufacturer coupon for even more savings.
- Walgreens also offers monthly store coupons (Instant Value Coupons, or IVC). Each month, Walgreens puts out a coupon booklet (normally found by the weekly fliers) for various items. These coupons are store coupons, not manufacturer coupons, so they don’t count toward your total number of coupons. Like in-ad coupons, only one of these coupons are required per transaction (the register will automatically deduct for all the items that you purchase). You don’t have to surrender the coupon, just show it at the register when you’re cashing out. These coupons can be ‘stacked’ (or combined with) manufacturer coupons for the same item.
